The Squadron Today
The Association aims to provide an ongoing link to the history of 97, for those who served with the squadron, their relatives and friends. The fact tha the Association exists at all owes much to our President, Wg Cdr Ken Cook , Vice President Ernie Groeger, our historian Kevin Bending and our original secretary Ann Savage. Ann’s organisational skills and attention to detail gave the association a very sound base and her successor, daughter Gail Savage-Smith, has continued to organise us in much the same way. There are also strong links to the Thorpe Camp Preservation Group which of course is based on the old RAF Woodhall Spa facility near Tattershall Thorpe, home to 97 in 1942 and 1943. This group have done a fantastic job in preserving the history of not only 97 Squadron, but also the other squadrons that were based in the area during, and after, World War 2.
